Event Genius delivers textbook cashless event at Forbidden Forest

Written by , 30th September 2019

This September we travelled down to Grimsthorpe to implement our award-winning cashless technology and access control solutions at Forbidden Forest. Hidden away between the trees of the Wild Oaks Forest, on the grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle, Forbidden Forest has one of the most unique festival venues in the UK and their lineups regularly feature the biggest names in house, techno and drum and bass.

Event Genius ensured fans entered the festival safely by providing access control via our Entry Genius app, and helped to keep queuing at bars and vendors to a minimum with cashless RFID wristband payments - facilitated by our Event Genius Pay point-of-sale system.

Event Genius provided:

  • Pre-event marketing
  • Advanced ticketing and voucher sales via Ticket Arena website & app
  • Dedicated account management services
  • Access control via Entry Genius
  • Cashless RFID payments via Event Genius Pay wristbands
  • 250 cashless payment devices for bars, top up stations and vendors
  • 30 PDQ machines for efficient top ups
  • On-site support for access control and cashless payments

Success stories:

The event was a resounding success. Fans presented their paper, mobile or in-app ticket which was scanned on the gates to the festival, receiving a cashless wristband in exchange. Once inside the festival grounds fans could head straight to one of our voucher redemption or top-up stations to credit their wristbands using their preferred method of payment. Forbidden Forest saw a 320% increase on the number of advance vouchers purchased for the equivalent event in 2018.

By providing our own integrated PDQ machines, the Forbidden Forest team had fewer suppliers to consider and staff were able to process card-based top up transactions faster than ever before meaning queues were kept to a minimum.

We also provided 250 cashless payment devices which were used in all payments throughout the site, from the six on-site bars with upwards of 30 staff each to the food vendors, merch sellers, locker rentals and even a Ferris wheel.

On-site staff and vendor training ensured everybody felt comfortable using Event Genius Pay, and the operations team were on the ground ready to respond should any problems arise.
